Mai Yakushiji - Pianist and piano teacher

Mai Yakushiji is a pianist and piano teacher based in Malmö, Sweden. She offer private piano lessons for adults and children of all ages.

Mai studied piano at the Kunitachi College of Music most notably with Seiki Haida (piano solo) and Seiya Hirashima (song interpretation).

Already during her studies she discovered Art Song. It became one of her great passions, taking a central part in her life.

In 2004, she won 1st prize at the National Piano Competition in Japan. Two years later she took part in the International Summer Academy „Das Deutsche Lied“ for voice and piano in Rottenburg am Neckar. Here she recieved a scholarship. She is a GVL scholarship holder, which is part of the „Neustart Kultur“ Programme for 2021. She received valuable artistic inspiration at masterclasses there, hosted by Irwin Gage and Karl-Peter Kammerlander.

Mai has been living in Berlin since 2006. There she deepened her knowledge of song interpretation and accompaniment with Sayali Dadas. Until 2012 she accompanied in Axel Bauni‘s interpretation class for contemporary song at the Berlin University of the Arts. From 2014 she’s a lecturer for song interpretation at the International Institute for the Art of Singing in Berlin.

Since 2012 she has also worked as a répétiteur in the opera project „Dorf macht Oper“ in Prignitz. Song recitals and chamber music concerts have so far taken her to Vienna, Almelo, and Boston as well as various places in Germany and Japan.
